Life Activation Challenge Day 23- Music as An Art
It was recently brought to my attention that we as a society no longer listen to music as a form of art anymore. Sure, music is always on, it is always around; but it is background noise. We no longer take the time to sit down and appreciate music for what it is, or the talent required for every facet.
When was the last time you listened to an album from beginning to end? Or the last time you listened to a whole song? Our generation uses music in so many ways that it often becomes a pissing contest or a battle of the iPod’s.
I started to think about making a conscious effort to enjoy music for what it is, and what its original purpose was. Sure, it’s meant as entertainment, but let’s go a bit deeper. Music is used as a tool for healing, a means of expression and the soundtrack for celebration. It was never meant to sit in the background as we multitask our lives away. Music has a face and a message, and I challenge you to consider this the next you are listening to your music. Does your choice of music empower you? Is it helping you through something? What is the artist trying to convey?
I started to use my 45 minute walk to and from work as my dedicated music time. I will listen to one album on each walk, distraction free and dig for the inner meaning; enjoy the beauty of each instrument and appreciate the artists work and contribution to the magical world of the arts.
