Beets come in white, gold and purple-red, but let’s focus on the red kind. A very potent antioxidant called betaine gives the beet its deep red colour. Betaine is extremely effective in lowering blood pressure, preventing blood clots and protects the lining of the blood vessels. As if that wasn’t good enough, beets also help prevent cancer!
Tip: When cooking beets leave a bit of stalk to prevent bleeding. Beet juice stains and will make your pee pink!
